”Our Year 9 students recently had the opportunity to experience one of Norton’s workshops as part of their unit on ‘Art and Place’. Students learned how to use local plant materials to create botanical dyes, twine and natural paint brushes as the starting point to developing artworks which explore their own personal connection to place. Students were also invited to consider their own important role in helping to protect the environment for future generations. As a secondary school Visual Arts teacher, I was very impressed by the clarity of Norton’s instructions, the timing and sequencing of all of the activities we were guided through, and the interesting pieces of information Norton dropped into the workshop to pique students’ interest.
